The “Pinchy” Shoulder Problem

If you’ve ever lifted your arm and felt that sharp pinch—or noticed your shoulder just won’t go “all the way back” like it used to—you’re not alone. What makes this so frustrating is that it’s not always tied to a dramatic injury. Often, it’s a slow build: tightness, restriction, soreness, and a growing sense that your shoulder is negotiating with you every time you reach, pull, or press.

In the video linked in this email, you’ll see a real-time shoulder assessment that highlights something many people miss: it’s not just about strength—it’s about control through range. When shoulder motion is limited, the body naturally guards. Over time, that guarding can create the exact “molded-in” pinching sensation people feel, especially when moving backward or overhead.

During this session, shockwave therapy was also introduced—but it’s important to note that this was the patient’s first time receiving shockwave and only a small dose (about ¼ of a typical treatment) was applied. Even with that limited exposure, we were able to see meaningful changes in how the shoulder moved and responded. For most mild to moderate shoulder conditions, best results typically occur over a series of 4–6 shockwave sessions, allowing the tissue and nervous system to adapt progressively without overwhelming the area.

The good news? Progress can happen quickly once we find the right angle and the right level of support. Even subtle changes in how the shoulder is loaded can uncover hidden restrictions—and immediately show you what improved motion feels like. That “shocking” moment when movement suddenly improves isn’t magic. It’s your nervous system recognizing safety, your joint getting space, and your muscles finally cooperating instead of bracing.

So if your shoulder has been “working on it for a year and a half,” don’t let that discourage you. With the right assessment, the right dosage, and the right progression, it’s possible to reclaim motion without forcing through pain. Learn more about the shockwave here
