Cervicogenic vertigo is dizziness that comes from problems with the neck, not the inner ear.
What Causes It?
When your neck can’t move the way your brain expects, it creates a mismatch between: Proprioception (body awareness), vision and inner ear signals.
Common Symptoms:
Feeling unsteady or lightheaded (not spinning)
Dizziness triggered by head and neck movement
Short episodes of dizziness
Neck stiffness, tenderness, and reduced range of motion
How to Treat It:
Chiropractic adjustments: Adjustments help to restore proper joint mechanics which improves range of motion. Adjustments also help stimulate proprioception which allows for better communication between the brain and the body.
Muscle release techniques around the neck: Reducing tension around the neck improves range of motion, allowing for your body to have a better understanding of where it is in space.
Strengthening deep neck flexors: Strengthening these muscles helps to bring the head back over the middle of the body, improving posture and allowing for better proprioception and balance. * Written By Natalie Stair
