Why We Don’t Accept Most Major Health Insurance Plans

Choosing Care That Puts You First
At Performance and Recovery Clinic, we’re often asked: “Do you take my insurance?” The short answer is: not usually. And it’s not because we don’t want to help people—we absolutely do. It’s because the insurance system is broken, and it often works against your healing, not for it.
We Don’t Believe in One-Size-Fits-All Care
Health insurance companies want us to fit your care into a box—based on codes, time limits, and what’s “medically necessary” in their eyes, not yours or ours. These decisions are made by people who have never examined you, have never attended chiropractic (or Medical) school, and often have no clinical license of any kind. They’re not in the business of getting you well—they’re in the business of managing cost and maintaining the status quo.
The result? A system that’s designed to keep people just “sick enough” to keep needing care, but not well enough to thrive.
We Don’t Play That Game.
We treat people, not policies. Every patient is different. Healing is individual. And your care should be, too.
We don’t believe in rushed, 5-minute appointments that check off a box.
We’re not McDonald’s. We’re not here to push high-volume, cookie-cutter care.
We believe in quality over quantity—because that’s how people truly get better.
The Flaws of the Insurance-Based Health Care Model
The American health care system is riddled with inefficiencies and perverse incentives:
Administrative bloat: For every physician, there are nearly 10 non-clinical workers in insurance-based systems. This adds cost without improving care. Source: JAMA, 2020
Rising premiums and deductibles: Patients often pay thousands
per year and still get minimal coverage for chiropractic and holistic services.
Restricted care: Many plans cap chiropractic visits or deny treatments like Shockwave or PEMF, regardless of your condition or your progress.
Profit over people: Insurance executives are incentivized to deny care. In 2022, UnitedHealthcare denied claims using AI-based tools that overrode physician recommendations, according to ProPublica.
How We Keep Costs Low and Care High-Quality
While we don't accept most insurances, we do provide monthly superbills—itemized receipts with service codes and dates—that you can submit to your insurance provider. Many of our patients are able to receive partial reimbursement or have the visit applied toward their deductible depending on their plan. Because we operate outside the insurance model, we don’t need to:
Hire billing staff to fight with insurance companies.
Waste time filling out excessive paperwork.
Follow arbitrary visit limits or authorization rules.
Instead, we focus our time and energy on you—your pain, your movement, and your goals.
We offer transparent, fair pricing and package options. Our systems are lean and direct, allowing us to spend more time with each patient and offer services like:
Chiropractic Adjustments
Soft Tissue Therapy
Shockwave Therapy
PEMF Therapy
Movement Assessments and Rehab
You Deserve Better Than the Insurance Assembly Line
We believe the future of health care is personal, efficient, and patient-centered. If you're ready to take ownership of your health and work with a provider who actually listens, explains, and tailors your care to you—we’d be honored to help.
